Exercise 5 bone features
this exercise is to help you begin to understand the terminologywe use to identify the general landmarks and features on bones (you will learn the specific bones of the skeleton and theirfeatures in greater detail in lab 6.) Use the skeletal materialprovided by your instructor (or the photos in the lab 5 exerciseimage library on pg. 131) to complete the following tasks.
2. Examine the humerus (upper arm bone). Locate the featuresboldfaced and described below, and write the corresponding lettersin the blanks provided on the image on pg. 131.
A. On the posterior side of the distal end of the humerus, thereis a feature called the olecranon fossa. This is where theelbow-forming projection of the ulna (one of the lower arm bones)sits when the lower arm is extended.
B. The medical side of the distal humerus has a small projectionyou can feel on the inside of your arm, called the medicalepicondyle.
C. On the shaft of the humerus there is a projection called thedeltoid tuberosity where the deltoid muscle attaches.
