When an alcohol containing compound and a thiol containing compound are subjected to hydration conditions both reactions

Post by answerhappygod »

When an alcohol containing compound and a thiol containingcompound are subjected to hydration conditionsboth reactions give a pair of cyclic and aliphatic products.Interestingly, when the thiol compound is reactedwith HCl/H2O a greater yield of the cyclic products are obtained incomparison to when the alcohol compoundis reacted with HCl/H2S. Furthermore, more aliphatic products areobtained from the hydrate reaction upon thealcohol compound than the thiol compound. In the space provided, give a chemical rationale as to why this is.
