Q3: Explain how you would produce a hard surface in the followings, Give reason(s) for your selection. 1-A shaft made from 1% Al-1.5%Cr steel which has to operate at a temperature between 350 and 400°C. 2-A gear wheel made from a 0.5%C steel which requires a hard surface to improve its wear-resistant properties. 3-An automobile axle requires an accurate thickness of the hardened case. 4-Large quantities of low carbon steel parts. 5-Very high wear resistance surface.
