A transportation company operating a distribution network within
the city owns a fleet of 6 vans. You are the new Transport manager
appointed to oversee the distribution operations. Company owners
have requested you to advise them whether or not to expand the
current fleet. This company has been in business for more than 10
years and developed a good reputation with their client. The goal
of the company is to serve their demand with zero delay 90% of the
time. Upon a survey you have conducted, it was found that the
average round trip time for any delivery is estimated to be one
hour and all the deliveries originate from a central warehouse. A
demand forecast reveals that during the daily peak period, there is
a constant probability of 50% to receive an order within every 5
minute period. Assume the probability of receiving two or more
orders within a 5 minute period is negligible.
