response. I have to respond in my opinion about the post below.
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has been growing into
importance for business lately as it has proven to have a positive
impact on brand and public image in the global market. There are no
set rules for a company to practice CSR but the underlying
objective is based on the idea of being socially accountable and
demonstrating a good corporate culture towards their community as
described by Schooley. The business that has a CSR
campaign claims to improve their communities, impacting positively
the economy and the environment.
Coca-Cola's “Hello Happiness” campaign has reached out to a
public that was not interested in their products and they used this
initiative to positively attract prospective consumers. The CSR was
used in this case to extend their market share and consequently
their profits. The great insight and differential were that instead
of using traditional marketing strategies, they utilized a campaign
more in line to CSR characteristics and people embrace their
products. Increasing the market share and bottom-line profits of
corporations will always be the underlying goal for each
corporation and the CSR programs can be a tool to do so.
According to Schooley, companies should not only use CSR for
marketing purposes as it could backfire to the public image of the
brand. A successful CSR initiative should involve employees in the
decision-making process and target the actions into something that
employees are passionate about will increase the chances of
participation and popularization of the program. There are other
examples of successful CSC companies such as: TOMS (they donate
one-third of their net profit to charities related to physical and
mental health issues); Google ( inventing in renewable energy
sources and sustainable offices) and Starbucks (implemented a
socially responsible hiring process that includes veterans,
refugees and etc.).
