(a) State the difference between a scalar and a vector and give one example of each. (b) A cyclist accelerated uniforml
(b) A cyclist accelerated uniformly from rest with an acceleration of 1.2 m s-² for 5.0 s. The cyclist then continues at a constant velocity for 10.0 s before stopping pedalling and then decelerating uniformly to rest over a further 30 m. i. Sketch a velocity time graph for the cyclist's journey. Show full working out for the relevant velocities and times to be shown on your graph. ii. Determine the distance travelled by the cyclist. iii. Describe, without calculation, the resultant force acting on the cyclist in the first 15 s. A paintball gun fires a paintball horizontally at a target which is 50 m away. The initial horizontal velocity of the paintball is 75 m s.¹. Air resistance can be ignored. Determine how far the paint ball has dropped by the time it reaches the target. ii Determine the angle between the paintball's direction and the horizontal when it hits the target. iii. The gun has a mass of 3.4 kg and the paintball has a mass of 3.5 x 103 kg. Determine the recoil velocity of the gun. iv. Calculate the initial kinetic energy of the paintball. (c) [
