Which of the following statements about excitation-contraction coupling in skeletal muscle is FALSE? An action potential in the sarcolemma stimulates the opening of voltage-gated calcium channels in the plasma membrane and the sarcoplasmic reticulum. Activation of motor neuron depends on summation of EPSPs/IPSPs. Calcium pumps in the sarcoplasmic reticulum are necessary for relaxation of the muscle. Calcium binds to troponin, causing a shift in tropomyosin, thereby exposing the binding sites on actin for myosin.
