Patient History: A person attends their GP
after feeling quite unwell. They have just returned from some
international travel, and they have come down with a fever at the
same time as a rash, which started on their face but is moving to
other areas. Their GP suspects measles although they have been
vaccinated previously, so they take a urine sample for testing. As
measles is highly contagious, the person is asked to return home to
isolate and monitor their symptoms.
Diagnosis: The patient is diagnosed with
rubeola viral infection (measles). The GP reports this infection to
the Victorian State Department of Health.
