(a) If this exercise represented the gametogenesis of an unknown
organism, what would be the diploid number of this organism? In
other words, 2n = __________? (In this formula, n is the haploid
number of chromosomes).
(b) Although you were not asked to show crossing-over in this
exercise, at what other point in meiosis besides crossing- over
(name the specific phase or phases), is genetic variation
generated? (
c) Based on the process of generating genetic variation that you
gave as the answer for part (b) above, for this organism, how many
genetically distinct gametes can be formed? (Hint: there is also a
formula for determining this number).
