Design the two footings and the strap beam that can supports an
exterior column (400 mm square) and internal column of (600 mm
square) placed at a distance center to center equal to 4 m. The
exterior column having its face along the property line carries a
DL = 500 kN and LL = 450 kN, while the interior column carries a DL
= 900 kN and LL = 700 kN. The bottom of the footing is to be 1.8m
below the grade. Allowable soil bearing capacity is 210kPa. Assume
e=1.5m, f’c = 20.7 MPa, and fy = 415 MPa. Use 75 mm steel cover and
25 mm Ø main bars and for the strap beam; b=600mm and 12 mm Ø for
stirrups with fyt=276MPa.
