The longitudinal and transverse cross sections of a confined
aquifer are shown in Figure 2.
Two wells, A and B, are located 1 km apart. The confined aquifer
has a plentiful source of
recharge, hence there is always a constant head at well A and well
B. The piezometric
heads in well A and well B are 100 m and 96 m respectively (using a
common datum). The
thickness of the confined aquifer is 40 m. The average width of the
confined aquifer is 1
km. The saturated hydraulic conductivity (K) of the aquifer is 100
m/day, and the effective
porosity n is 0.40.
