Question: A solution of 1216 kg/h containing 53% by weight of solute(A) in 42% by weight of carrier(B) with traces of 5% by weight of solvent(s). The feed is required to reduce to 3% (by weight) as a raffinate by a continuous extraction in a countercurrent extraction using pure solvent. Determine the followings: a) the ideal number of stages required for the above extraction if the composition at the mixing point is 0.21. b) S/F and Smid/F ratio for the above extraction c) the extract composition as well as extract and raffinate flow rates at final stage only.
