A traffic light remains red for 60 seconds at a time before it
changes to green.
You arrive at this light and find it red. Assuming that you arrive
at a uniformly distributed
time during the period the light is red, the probability density
for how long you wait until the
light changes would be f(x) = 1/60 for 0 ≤ x ≤ 60 and f(x) = 0
otherwise.
a) What is the mean waiting time?
b) What can you conclude for the mean value of a uniform
distribution on the interval [a, b]?
