Scenario: Suppose we are interested to know the difference proportion of current STAT380 students who consider themselves "Nebraska Natives" compared to last semester's STAT380 students. To answer this, all current and last semester's STAT380 students were asked if they consider themselves "Nebraska Natives". (The data is two columns of TRUE and FALSE data) The collected data is provided in the Q4_Data.xlsx file on Canvas. Phase 1. Assumptions. 1. What value do you expect the average difference in average proportion of current versus last semester's STAT380 students who identify as Nebraska natives to follow? II. What assumptions are you making about your data? Include the types (quantitative or categorical, reasonable range, etc) of answers you expect to find in your data file. III. Prune (remove) any data which does not meet your assumptions. IV. Graph your data using a stacked bar chart. V. Summarize your pruned sample data in a short paragraph. At a minimum, include the research question of interest, n, sample mean, and sample standard deviation or variance. Phase 2. Investigation. 1. Set up a hypothesis test to determine if the difference in average proportion of students who considered themselves Nebraska Natives has changed from Fall 2021 to Spring 2022. At a minimum, include the null and alternative hypotheses in words and symbols, the p-value of your observed statistic, a conclusion, and interpretation in context. Phase 3. Innovation. 1. Ask a statistically interesting question about the collected data. II. Answer your statistically interesting question using something we covered in this course.
