(b) Explain with examples the different types of measures of
central tendency.
(c) The following are the grades given for the first test in a
statistics class: 50, 90, 80, 65, 74, 82, 75, 83, 88, and 86.
Find the median score, the mean score, the variance and the
coefficient of variation.
(d) The mean weight of three gemstones is 20 grams. The weights
of two of the stones are 15 grams and 17 grams. What is the weight
of the third stone?
(e) In a random sample 50% of students indicated
they are business majors, 40% engineering majors, and 10% other
majors. Of the business majors, 60% were females; whereas, 30% of
engineering majors were females. Finally, 80% of the other majors
were male. Given that a student is male, what is the probability
that he is an engineering major?
(f) In an experiment, two 6-faced dice are rolled. Write
down the relevant sample space using the format: S = {
(1,1),(1,2),(1,3),(1,4),(1,5),(1,6), …………}. What is the probability
of getting the sum of 7 on a roll of the two dice?
(g) A single card is drawn at random from a deck of 52 cards.
Find the probability of selecting (a) a King, (b) a red card, (c) a
King of red, (d) a King given that it is a red card, (e) a red card
given that it is a King, and (f) a Queen given that it is a Heart
(Show your calculations).
(h) The life expectancy of brand X watches is normally
distributed with a mean of 4 years and a standard deviation of 8
months. Ninety-five percent of the watches will have a life
expectancy of at least how many month
