The amount of electricity used in a home is thought to depend on
the living area of the home (measured in square metres). In order
to investigate this relationship a researcher selected a random
sample of homes and for each home recorded the living area (Area)
and the number of kilowatt hours of electricity used in a two-month
period (Consumption). Let X denote the area and Y denote the
consumption of electricity. The data were used to calculate the
following quantities:
