12. For a warehouse with rectangular footprint, East/West length 100m, North/South length 60m, and aisles that run North/South, suppose the loading dock is in the center of the southern east/west wall. As usual, approximate the uniform discrete distribution of aisle locations with a continuous uniform distribution. (a) Find the expected distance traveled to retrieve one randomly located item and return to the loading dock. (b) Find the expected distance traveled to retrieve two randomly located items and return to the loading dock. Simplify your model by assum- ing that the two items are not in the same aisle. (c) Suppose 20% of the item types account for 90% of the items retrieved. These fast-moving items are stored in the aisles between 40m and 60m from the west wall (the centermost aisles). Find the expected distance traveled to retrieve two items and return to the loading dock. Assume the two items are in different aisles.
