As you know, Gregor's family was only concerned with his
outward appearance and not with how things really are with him once
he becomes an insect. Do you think their response to him is any
different than it was before he turned into a bug? In other words,
did they ever care about things really were with him, or were they
content to believe he was okay whether or not that were really
true? As you read about how Gregor reacts to his physical
transformation, how do you feel in response to it? Do you feel the
sense of confusion and discomfort at the new condition Gregor is
in, as Kafka describes it? What details make it seem a natural
outgrowth of his life to that point?
