Assume normal weight concrete with f = 5,000 psi and steel bars of Grade 60. For design loads assume dead load PD = 350 kips (including member self-weight) and live load P₁ = 425 kips. Design the smallest possible round spiral column per ACI requirements: a) Column external diameter b) Longitudinal bar selection (how many #11 required) c) Spiral pitch for #4 spiral d) Sketch with proper dimensions and bar arrangement Assume that the column is short, the form sizes are available in 2 inches increments (even numbers), only #11 longitudinal bars are available, and that the design should have the same strength in all directions. Assume 1.5 in clear cover.
