A solid shaft of 80 mm diameter has a strain gauge mounted at 60° to the shaft axis at point 0, as shown in Figure 2. In service an axial force and a torque of 10 kNm are applied to the shaft and the strain gauge reads - 500 ~ 106. The shaft is made of steel with the Young's modulus and Poisson's ratio of 200 GPa and 0.3, respectively. (1) Calculate the value of the axial force P.
