The hydronic system shown below is designed using schedule 40 steel pipe to provide hot water for an industrial process. The process coil removes enough heat so water returns to the boiler at 180 °F. The boiler supplies water at 200 °F and has a heating capacity of 2,400,000 Btuh. Assume sea level pressure. Except for an elbow, the down comer length is ignored. Take all Eq. Lengths and Friction Rates from the B&G System Syzer wheel/envelope. Use your book for ‘k' values. 100 30 v To Process A 60 200 40 H+ = 12 ft w.g. Gate Valve (Eq.Length) e) Use friction Rate, k-values, equivalent length, or Cv to find discharge line loss including: a. Pipe (Friction Rate) b. Check (E4. Length) c. Std. Elbows (Fq.Length) d. Flow Meter (Cv) e. Exit (k-value) f) What is the estimated water horsepower? g) What is the available Net Positive Suction Head (NPSHA)? h) From the attached pump curves, which pump is best suited to handle this job? i) What is the pump's required net positive suction head (NPSHR)? j) Will the pump you selected cavitate under these conditions? Show and explain. If the answer is yes, you need not select a new pump. Continue with your current selection. k) or the pump selected, what is the impellor size? 1) Assuming calculations are correct, what is the pump brake horsepower, the efficiency, and actual flow rate with the impellor you selected?
m) Determine at least five points that allow you to plot a system curve. Plot the system curve on the selected pump curve. Make sure you account for elevation head.
