From the WSJ article - Squatters Cut Down the Rainforest. Brazil
Wants to Give Them the Land.:
“… giving Mr. Pacheco a deed to the land he farms might curtail
deforestation…it could help him become a more efficient farmer,
able to produce more on less land… it might discourage him and
squatters like him from cutting ever deeper into the jungle.”
If farmers such as Carlos Pacheco are given deeds to the
land they use to raise cattle and grow crops, why would this reduce
the deforestation of Brazilian land? Would the deeds change your
answers to question 1 through 3? Explain.
