ANALYSIS OF MASS DIAGRAM, QUANTITY & COSTING
The following calculations and diagram need to be included
in the technical report:
Q1: Complete the mass diagram calculation table following
average end area method of earthwork calculation.
Q2: Complete the Mass Diagram placing all earthwork elements
(waste, borrow, LPH, OH & FH).
Q3: Find out soil quantity (station-m3) for economic supply
(i.e. area covered by LPH) for each loop.
Q4: Find out soil quantity (station-m3) for Over Haul for
each loop.
Q5: Calculate amount of soil needs to be disposed
(waste)which should not be used in the project
Q6: Calculate amount of soil needs to purchased (borrow)
from outside of the project
Q7: Estimate balance of quantity of LPH and Over Haul
considering Cut-LPH (or Over Haul) soil is going to be used for
Fill. If ‘not enough’ how much is negative balance?
Q8: Calculate overall costing of the main earthwork
considering:

Q9: The excavator you hired was supposed to generate 85dB
for which you fixed one-shift of 8 hr. If in
real life you found that that machine is generating 88 dB,
how to adjust/overcome this unexpected
situation which would place the construction workers to a
risk of hearing damage? Included this answer
in the Health and Safety section of the report. Take help
from EPA guideline (Environmental Guidelines
for Major Construction Sites by EPA Victoria, 1996; uploaded
in Canvas).
MASS DIAGRAM PARAMETERS
LPH = Length of Profitable Haul
OH = Over Haul
FH = Free Haul
Consider shrinkage factor 15%
FHD = 90 m
use LPH = 140 m
