QB3: Turbomachinery a) Explain the four processes that make up the Brayton cycle and show how they are represented on p-v and T-s diagrams. [2 marks] b) For a compressor used in the above cycle, the rotational speed is 290rev/s, the overall diameter of the impeller is 0.5 m, air mass flow rate is 9 kg/s, the inlet stagnation temperature and pressure are respectively 295 K and 1.1 bar. The isentropic efficiency is 78%. With slip factor, o, of 0.9, determine i) the impeller tip tangential speed. [3 Marks] ii) the power required. [10 Marks] iii) = Assuming the blade exit velocity component, C2r = 150 m/s, work out the exit absolute velocity, C2, and the exit flow angle, B2. [10 Marks] Take R= 0.287kJ/kgK and y =1.4 TOTAL [25 Marks]
